Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has highlighted the benefits of entrepreneurship, and urged students of the institution to conceptualize their ideas in line with entrepreneurship.
The Rector made the call recently when You Win, a programme under the Federal Ministry of Finance, distributed free books to over 500 students of the institution.
Represented by the Deputy Rector Academic, Dr. Nkiruka Akabuike, Dr Awuzie appreciated the Federal Ministry of Finance for the novel initiative, and enjoined students to leverage on it for self sustenance.
She further advised students of the polytechnic to acquaint themselves with the book that was given to them, and systematically assimilate it so that they might set up profitable ventures for themselves.
You Win is a federal government programme under the Federal Ministry of Finance, designed to strategically engage youths of selected tertiary institutions across the country on the subject of entrepreneurship.
It is engineered to create opportunities for Nigerian youths to become self reliant through entrepreneurship, thereby, combating unemployment.
The books that were distributed focus on how to plan, start and grow a business.
At the event, the You Win facilitator, Joy Onyekachi, sensitized students on the imperative of skills development and entrepreneurship. She told the students that white collar jobs are scarce and limited, and therefore, not possible to accommodate the teeming youths who are in need of employment.
According to her, the federal government, through the You Win programme, aims at providing opportunities for graduates to become self employed and employers of labour after school.
She stated that it would be counterproductive and unwise to be fixated on government jobs or white collar jobs instead of creating jobs and becoming an employer of labour. She further highlighted the dynamics of starting a business and the basic fundamentals that should be taken into consideration.
