FedPoly, Oko, Commitmented Towards Protecting Staff, Students; Says Rector, Dr Awuzie

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has called on the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI), Federal Polytechnic Oko branch, and other unions on campus to continue to support the administration and engage in constructive criticism where necessary, rather than engage in actions that cause chaos.

The Rector made the appeal on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 in her office when the trade union paid her a courtesy visit.

She reinstated her commitment towards protecting all staff members, adding that Federal Polytechnic Oko under her watch, frowns at victimisation of staff and students.

“This is a union friendly administration,” she said. “We don’t need strike; if any matter that requires management attention comes up, let us know about it, so that we could look into it together.

“I am requesting for synergy and harmonious working relationship between unions and the management. No union will be denied any right due to them. Let us work as a team to ensure a united institution.”

Earlier, chairman of SSAUTHRIAI, Comrade Godson Nzekwe, said they were on the visit to introduce the new leadership of the trade union in the institution and to congratulate her on her emergence as the Rector of the institution.

They seized the opportunity to make requests for a union vehicle and space for erection of their secretariat.
