The founding National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu (Ikolo Awka), has urged Anambra State to embrace the current coalition under the ADC platform, so that the political future of the state could be secured.

He stated this on Friday, August 8, during a campaign flagoff organized by the party for its governorahip candidate, Mr. John Chukwuma Nwosu, and his running mate, Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, at the All Saints Cathedral field, Onitsha.

Nwosu, who regretted that Anambra State has been shortchanged under successive governments of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) with their leadership myopia, urged that the state should open up and link properly with ADC, a political coalition that has greater potential.

He stated, “This coalition that all Nigerians are embracing is a political party we built in Awka, Anambra State. We built it, and the entire Nigeria accepted it for this coalition.

“It is now left for Anambra State to cue in and embrace it. I can assure you that whatever we’re getting now as handout from federal allocation, we’re going to get it one hundred times more as a product we build, because, I know that this coalition will succeed.

“I founded APGA, and in a twinkle of an eye, it pulled force and took over Anambra State. Now, I’m bringing ADC to the table, and I can assure you that it is taking over the federal government. It is now left for us in Anambra to cue in and embrace the party for our own good. It is in history; it is recorded that this ADC coalition that we’ve championed is the greatest coalition that has taken place in the Nigerian history, and it will be tragic for Anambra State not to be part of it.”

The ADC boss described the governorahip candidate of the party, Mr. John Nwosu, and his running mate, Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, as the best team in the Anambra governorahip race, and maintained that the party will restore Anambra’s glorious years which the worms have eaten under successive APGA administrations.

In his speech, governorahip candidate of the party, Mr. John Chukwuma Nwosu, asked Anambra people, irrespective of their party differences, to join hands with him to rescue the state “from Soludo and his cohorts.” He said that successive APGA administrations, especially Soludo’s government, have been tested and were found wanting.

He stated, “Soludo has failed in security, infrastructure and social amenities, education, healthcare, and any other thing you can think about. If his government cannot succeed in four years, it is doubtful if it could succeed in 8 years. This government is an all-around failure; thus, the need to replace it with a more competent government.

“Under Soludo, Anambra State is badly broken. We cannot continue to watch Soludo bringing Anambra State down this way. A new and prosperous Anambra is possible under ADC government.”

Describing his running mate, Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, as a political expert and strong pillar of support, Nwosu expressed optimism that this combination is capable of snatching Anambra government house from the current APGA administration.

Earlier in his keynote address, Anambra State chairman of the party, Comrade Patrick Obianyo, a distinguished former labour union leader, said that with ADC, the journey towards reclaiming the soul of Anambra State from maladministration has started.

“We’re here today, because, Anambra deserves better. Time has come to put the people first. Anambra is not poor, but poorly led. For too long, politics in Anambra has been about them. Today, with ADC, politics is about you,” he said.

While describing the ADC governorship candidate, John Nwosu, as a servant leader, a visionary, a tested hand and a man of the people, the ADC chairman also described the deputy governorahip candidate, Ndubuisi Nwobu as an accomplished technocract and grassroots mobilizer, saying that the two politicians are coming with true solutions – which includes job creation, skills and digital empowerment, infrastructure development, security, transformational leadership, accountability, etc.

“We ask that you give us your trust. Examine our candidates – look at our manifesto – listen to our plans. Compare us with the rest, and you will find out that ADC is the credible alternative Anambra has been waiting for,” he concluded.

In interviews conducted by our correspondent, several people in the rally expressed overwhelming support for Mr. John Nwosu and Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, referring to them as “rare gems” whose dedication and personal sacrifices for the welfare of Anambra and its people have not gone unnoticed. They highlighted the numerous contributions of the two men, emphasizing how they always prioritized the needs of the people over their own needs.

The people spoke passionately about their commitment to ensuring that John Nwosu and Ndubuisi Nwobu’s election as governor and deputy governor are realized come November 8, 2025.

During the flagoff rally, governorahip candidate of the ADC, John Nwosu, and his running mate, Ndubuisi Nwobu, were given the party flag. Barr Donald Amamgbo, and Mrs Justina Azuka (wife of the slain Anambra lawmaker, Justice Azuka), who were candidates of the party for Anambra South senatorial by-election and Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election also received flags of the party.
