The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has solicited for the collaboration and cooperation of the Akwa Ibom state Ministry of Health to collectively win the war against illicit drug abuse in the state .
The state commander of NDLEA, Mrs. Obot Bassey made the appeal at a courtesy visit on the Akwa Ibom state commissioner for health Professor Augustine Vincent in Uyo, the state capital.
She revealed that the command has arrested twenty one drugs suspects with over sixty kilograms of hard drugs and pshycotropic substances seized, in the month of May alone..
“My primary objective is to identify with the commission, because drugs and health are two family friends that are inseperable”.
“Against this backdrop, I am here to seek your support, synergy and collaboration, in ensuring that Akwa Ibom state indigenes are free from drugs”.
She explains further,” And last month in particular, we arrested twenty one suspects with over sixty kilograms of hard drugs and psychotropic substances”.
“And we found out that the consumption rate is high and Akwa Ibom state is a transitory state”. She explained.
The new commander of NDLEA solicits the collaboration of the state government to rid the state of illicit substance abuse among the young and productive ages of Akwa Ibom youths.
She seized the occasion to invite the state ministry of health to it’s annual drug awareness creation programme coming up on 20th and ends on 27th of June, 2021, tagged, United Day Against Illicit Drug Trafficking and Abuse
