13 die, 12 injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

No fewer than 13 persons were confirmed dead while 12 others sustained injuries in an accident involving unregistered Volvo truck and a commercial Mazda bus opposite along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the incident to Journalists in Abeokuta.

He noted that the accident occurred around 4pm in front of a a company specialized in manufacturing roofing pipes along the Expressway.

He added that the commercial bus driver wrongly overtook an ongoing vehicle which led to loss of control, and he unfortunately rammed into a stagnant faulty waste disposal truck.

The Public Relations Officer also confirmed that the commercial bus was over looaded with 25 passengers instead of 18 passengers known with such vehicles.

He analyzed the 25 victims to include nine men, eight women and eight minors.

He stated that 12 persons which comprised five men, three women and four minors were injured while 13 persons comprising four male, five female and four minors died in the accident.
