The Anambra State House of Assembly, has called for urgent rehabilitation of a major road, connecting the four large villages that made up Nnewi Town, in Nnewi North Local Government Area. The motion was moved by Hon. Nonso, Smart Okafor (APGA, Nnewi North), and seconded by Hon. Onyebuchi Offor (PDP, Ekwusigo), at the plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Okafor, (APGA, Ayamelum).
Expatiating on the motion, Hon. Nonso Okafor, said that the major road had been existing from the olden days, connecting the four villages of Otolo – Uruagu – Umudim – Nnewichi, and was the main avenue through which the people reach out to their kindreds. He said that in recent times, when Nnewi has grown to the status of cosmopolitan city, with large commercialization and industrialization, the road has been over-stretched with infrastructures badly dilapidated, adding that today, the road has become impassable. He called on Governor Obiano to expedite to rehabilitate the roads, so as to help the large population concentration and heavy vehicular movement, transact businesses smoothly. He thanked Governor Obiano for rehabilitation of 100 foot Road Erosion site.
Contributing to the motion, Rt. Paschal Agbodike (Ihiala II), said that as he passes through Nnewi to his Constituency, he is a living witness to excruciating inconveniences that the said road cause to commuters. He said that as Nnewi is a large commercial and industrial town, it generates immense revenue to the State, and so, deserves good network of roads for transactions.
In his conclusion, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Okafor, ruled that House of Assembly, appeal to the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to cause the construction of Otolo-Uruagu-Umudim_nnewichi road, which have become impassable.
